Amylynne Frankel, MD, FAAD
Mahinakealo Dermatology Medical Director
Dr. Amylynne Frankel is a board-certified dermatologist and trained fellow in clinical dermatopharmacology. After completing her undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College in 2003, she moved north to do her medical education at University of Vermont (UVM). Dr. Frankel graduated from UVM Medical School in 2008. Dr. Frankel then moved to New York, where she completed one year of medicine at Stonybrook Medical Center on Long Island. She then completed her dermatology residency and fellowship training at the esteemed Mount Sinai Hospital on the upper east side of Manhattan. Dr. Frankel then returned north to the under-served area of Maine, where she began a medical practice serving the youngest keiki to the oldest kupuna in the community. Having spent every year in Hawai’i since she was eight (she actually lost both of her bottom front teeth on a trip to Maui during her first visit to the islands), she realized that her passion was to move to Hawai’i to help the under-served community in our state. Dr. Frankel lived and worked on O’ahu for several years before moving back to the mainland for family reasons. However, the calling to return to Hawai’i was too great, and she has long desired to move back ever since leaving. Dr Frankel has particular interest in psoriasis, eczema, and acne, as well as skin surgery. She loves treating and forming bonds with patients of all ages. In her spare time, Dr Frankel likes to keep active. She has run several marathons, set national and local records for weightlifting in both New England as well as Hawai’i, finds peace hiking, and is always on the hunt for the best poke. She is also very active in animal rescue. We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Dr. Frankel's clinical knowledge, surgical expertise, and compassion as the director of our medical practice.
Marné CarMichael Walsh, PA-C
Board Certified Physician Associate
Marné is a nationally board-certified Physician Associate (PA) with a specialty recognition in Surgery. She has been practicing medical dermatology as a PA since 2005, including extensive advanced and expert training in cosmetic injectables. In addition, as a certified Medical Laser Safety Officer, she has been operating cosmetic medical lasers since 2009. Marné has an artful eye and passion for rejuvenating and sculpting the aging face to make it look refreshed and natural. She comes with a life-long understanding for the unique demands Hawai’i makes on our skin. Marné was born and raised on the island of O’ahu. After graduating from the University of Hawaii, Manoa with a B.S. in Biology in 1990, she worked in cancer research and published multiple peer reviewed articles at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Marné moved to Chicago for graduate school and received her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the Chicago Medical School/Finch University of Health Sciences in 1999. Over the course of her career, she has trained in dermatology, cosmetic surgery, pathology, phlebology, urology, internal medicine as well as cardiothoracic surgery. Her postgraduate work has been featured in both Clinics of North America for Plastic Surgery as well as American Therapeutics. Marné moved to Boston and spent over six years working as a Physician Assistant in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Tuft’s-New England Medical Center. In this position, she gained valuable operating room and intensive care unit (ICU) experience and trained resident doctors rotating through her department. She eventually transitioned from cardiothoracic surgery to dermatology while still in Boston, and has been practicing dermatology since 2005. Returning to her roots in Hawai’i so her children may share the same unique experience she had while growing up here, she hopes to impart similar values to them: Respect for each other, caring for our environment and the love for life! Marné attends multiple medical education conferences and trainings throughout the year in order to provide the most up-to-date care for her patients. Her philosophy for providing compassionate and individualized care to help her island community is at the core of her passion.

Elena Tavares
Licensed Aesthetician - Hilo & Kamuela
Elena was born and raised right here on Hawai’i Island. She completed her initial aesthetician training at the Maui Academy of Cosmetology then furthered her skills with advanced training at Makana Academy on O’ahu. She comes to us with over 20 years of aesthetic experience and expertise in the aesthetic field. In her free time, Elena enjoys gardening and spending time with her children. Kaulana McKee
Licensed Aesthetician - Hilo & Kamuela
Kaulana is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii. She made the move to Washington after high school where she found her way to the world of aesthetics and completed her master aesthetician training at Glen Dow Academy. In 2018 she immersed herself into a career as a medical aesthetician in Spokane, Washington, where she offered treatments in the medical spa/dermatology setting. In her free time, you will find Kaulana spending time with her ‘ohana, including her young daughter.
Melanie Stinger
Licensed Aesthetician - Kamuela
I have been a licensed professional in the aesthetics industry since 2008 and feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in many facets of this field. I’ve worked with lasers in medi-spas and Dermatology offices since 2012 and hold instructor’s licenses in two states including Hawai’i. I worked as a National Educator teaching cosmetic chemistry and professional protocols for four years prior to moving to the Big Island. I also run and own SkN By Melanie in Kona where I provide Aesthetic services when I am not running lasers at Mahinakealo Dermatology. I am blessed to do what I love and work with the best of the best. In my spare time I love to travel, hike, lift weights and run around our coffee farm in Halualoa, tending to our land, goats, chickens and farm kitties!

Sunday Miura
Licensed Aesthetician - Hilo
Sunday was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, where she graduated from Hilo High School in 2023. Sunday went on to pursue her passion for aesthetics at Big Island Beauty Academy, completing her training in October 2024. Sunday is dedicated to growing her expertise in the field of aesthetics under the guidance of our experienced aestheticians. She is committed to helping her patients feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors whenever she has the opportunity.
