Mahinakealo Dermatology offers several options for hair restoration, including prescription topical ointments containing minoxidil-based compounds, oral vitamin capsules containing supplements known to promote hair growth and low-level laser light therapy for strengthening hair fibers. Combing these non-invasive treatment modalities with the other more procedural methods will give maximal results for preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth and maintenance. Minoxidil-based compounded topical ointments These are prescription-based topical ointments requiring an in-office visit with one of our clinicians due to the Rx containing 7% minoxidil. We offer both male and female versions of these topical ointments, which last about two months depending on frequency and quantity of application. Topical ointments are a simple and reversible way to promote healthy hair growth through the normal molecular pathways which control hair growth and prevent hair loss. (plated)® Hair Serum (plated)® HAIR Serum is a scientific breakthrough, harnessing the power of platelet-derived Renewosome™ technology to make your hair look fuller, stronger, and thicker. Oral Vitamin Capsules (Votesse™ Vitamins) Small, daily, biotin-free oral pills containing natural vitamins, minerals and probiotics can be taken to promote systemic hair growth and wellness. The vitamin ingredients have been clinically shown to support fuller, healthier-looking hair, and contain antioxidants, multi-vitamins and probiotics that address wellness from the inside out. The ingredients are saw palmetto (DHT inhibitor), green tea extract (antioxidant and DHT blocker), capsaicin (stimulates hair growth) and N-acetyl-L-cysteine (antioxidant). A bottle of 90 capsules last one month when taking three pills daily. Votesse™ vitamins are a great way to enhance the effectiveness of topical ointments or growth factor-based therapies. Theradome® Low-Level Laser Light Therapy (LLLLT) Mahinakealo Dermatology offers the option of the use of Theradome® LLLLT for enhancing hair growth and thickness. LLLLT using our Theradome® helmet device has been clinically and scientifically proven to regrow hair by providing precise delivery of 678nm of light energy to the target follicles and covers 582 cm2 total scalp. In most patients, the use of LLLLT increases the diameter of the hair strands. To achieve results, the helmet is worn at least twice a week for 20 minutes for each treatment and has been carefully tested and refined to produce safe, reliable results.

PRP & PRF are currently being used by many dermatologists for non-FDA approved (“off-label”) restoration of hair growth, as well as other skin diseases and conditions. Mahinakealo Dermatology uses a specifically designed centrifugal tube system that enriches the bioactive growth factors into the smallest volume devoid of as many unnecessary biological materials. This PRP fraction of the patient’s blood is then injected in small volumes over the desired target area. For PRF, the same blood collection is used, but the processing of the collected blood involves no anti-coagulant used, slower spinning, and a process of heating and cooling to enrich for fibrin-rich portion of the blood. PRF is considered to be a more natural and longer-lasting enrichment of the important cells and molecules from the blood plasma.

FoLix™ is the first FDA-cleared, non-ablative, fractional laser system providing an effective, safe, and simple treatment for women and men for hair restoration. The results are equivalent to PRP, and the 30-minute procedure is painless.
